Family Support Specialist Full Time
Required Skills & Qualifications: - - A minimum of 3 to 5 years' experience providing education, guidance and support to high-risk, low income families with young children (0 to 4 years old) is required. - * At least 2 years of experience in providing home visitation services to high-risk, low-income families is preferred. - * High School graduate, GED, or equivalent is required. - * Certified Lactation Educator (CLE) is preferred - * Bachelor's degree in child development, Social Services, or related field is preferred - * Valid California Driver's License - * Proof of personal auto insurance - * Personal transportation with current California registration - * Other minimum requirements include: experience and willingness to work with culturally diverse populations, strong knowledge of infant and child development, accepting of individual differences - * At least one year's experience in using a computer for data entry and word processing is required. - * Willingness to engage in building reflective capacity and an ability to establish trusting relationships - * Good communication skills are required.
Description of Duties: - - The Family Support Specialist (FSS) is responsible for initiating and maintaining regular, long-term contact with families in Compton, Los Angeles and surrounding areas and providing support to families following Healthy Families America home visitation model and project guidelines. These visits will primarily occur within the family's home using family centered and strength-based interventions. The FSS will also be responsible for assisting families in establishing goals and developing plans to accomplish those goals. The FSS will conduct assessments, provide education, guidance and referrals, document data in project data systems, attend project meetings and trainings and participate in weekly reflective supervision sessions.
