Requirements:
Ph.D. in Pathology, Immunology or Biomedical Science
Human and animal subjects research training
Minimum 4 years of experience in basic science research laboratory working on research projects related to cancer or immunology
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: - Ph. D degree with research experience; a track record of publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals - Solid knowledge in immunology, microbiology, molecular and cell biology - Have developed foundation in technical skills including sterile tissue culture technique - Experience in handling mice, flow cytometry, molecular techniques and basic computer programming is preferred. - Ability to perform and prioritize multiple simultaneous tasks - Ability to participate in the preparation of grant applications and publications - Ability to design and execute experiments, critically interpret experiments results and present the data in a meaningful manner - Highly motivated with ability to work as a member of a team as well as independently - Serve as a role model for other trainees and technicians in good laboratory practices, continued self-learning, rigor and reproducibility of results, ethical treatment of animals and data - Ability to work well under pressure, able to meet multiple and sometimes conflicting deadlines - Ability to interact in an appropriate and professional manner; able to receive and provide thoughtful feedback for continued improvement of self and laboratory members - Demonstrated cooperative behavior and positive-problem solving and conflict resolution skills - Available to work dependable, flexible shift, especially if experiments require odd hours for various time points/time-sensitive studies; able to work on site full time - Under supervision of the Principal Investigator, effectively lead a project in a translational research environment in order to achieve successfully project goals
Responsibilities: - Design and executes experimental procedures. - Participates in conducting research studies – including performing laboratory assays such as flow cytometry, RT-PCR, Immunohistochemistry, RNA extractions and cell culture. - Participates in the development and analysis of in vivo experiments involving mice including anesthesia injections, aseptic work, animal handling and tissue excision. - Responsible for generating, analyzing conducting statistical analyses and generating scientific data in-progress reports, manuscripts and grant applications. - Assists in maintaining the inventory, supplies needed for research and coordination of samples/activities from various collaborating departments at UCLA and others. - Assists in student training as well as training new staff and collaborators in research techniques and activities. - Maintains related correspondence and regulatory paperwork. - Reply to all communications (such as email and telephone) within one business day. - Assist in writing policies and procedures as needed and requested by supervisor. - Able to troubleshoot and resolve technical difficulties. - Committed to career in biomedical science.
