Description
ABOUT US: The Lundquist Institute for Biomedical Innovation at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center is an independent, non-profit biomedical research organization located in Torrance, California. In dozens of laboratories throughout the campus, researchers are working to unravel the mysteries of heart and kidney disease, cardiac complications in newborns, chronic lung disease, skin cancer, sickle cell disease, disorders of the autoimmune system, and much more. Many of these projects are collaborative in nature, involving experts from different areas of specialization. Our discoveries have prevented blindness in newborns, enabled premature infants with fragile lungs to breathe and allowed children with rare, often fatal diseases to grow up healthy and strong.
REQUIREMENTS: - A PhD in the biological sciences field plus at least 1-2 years of experience in developmental biology, lung biology preferred - Advanced knowledge of biological processes - Expertise in human lung tissue handling and culture - Expertise in cell culture (primary cell and iPSC) and tissue culture - Expertise in molecular biology techniques (RNA, DNA extractions, rt-PCR, electrophoresis, ELISA etc) - Expertise in protein assays (extractions, WB) - Expertise in immunofluorescent staining and fluorescent in situ hybridization (RNAscope) - Expertise in imaging (confocal, light sheet, live-imaging etc.) - Familiarity with siRNA - Familiarity with Flow-cytometry - Familiarity with big data analyses - Ability to think independently and perform appropriate data analysis - Ability to write papers - Ability to write grants - Ability to work as a member of a team and help supervise other team members - Ability to work well under pressure and meet multiple and sometimes conflicting deadlines - Ability to interact in an appropriate and professional manner - Demonstrates cooperative behavior and positive-problem solving and conflict resolution skills - Available to work dependable, flexible shift
RESPONSIBILITIES: - Conducting research and publishing papers in academic journals - Designing new scientific projects - Writing grant proposals to secure funding for research projects - Supervising and training students - Attending academic conferences - Participate in professional society events and activities - Participate in institutional activities - Other duties as may be assigned
