POSITION SUMMARY & JOB SUMMARY
The Lundquist Institute (TLI) seeks a skilled Research Outreach Marketing Manager (ROMM) to collaborate with TLI's team of over 100 MD, PhD, and MD/PhD researchers, as well as research support personnel. This role is vital in amplifying the institution's impact and enhancing philanthropic support through strategic storytelling, content creation, and targeted marketing efforts. The ROMM will act as the primary liaison between TLI's research teams and the Communications and Marketing department, ensuring that groundbreaking scientific discoveries and medical advancements are effectively communicated to diverse audiences, including donors, media, and the general public.
Reporting to the Senior Director, Communications and Marketing, the ROMM will help execute TLI's comprehensive marketing and communications strategy. This role will work across the organization to produce engaging scientific and medical content for various platforms, including the Lundquist website, social media, event communications, newsletters, and digital/printed collateral.
This role is based in Torrance and our hybrid working model allows full-time staff members to work remotely, as agreed upon with management. It is expected that this role will work in the office ~three days per week.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Research Liaison Build and maintain strong relationships with researchers and clinicians across various departments to stay informed of ongoing research projects, innovations, and medical breakthroughs. Ensure consistency of researcher content (e.g. researcher bios) across channels. Act as the bridge between the Communications and Marketing team and research teams, ensuring timely and consistent communication. Elevate TLI branding on all departmental communications and marketing efforts and identify opportunities for enhanced collaboration between researchers and the Communications and Marketing department. Participate in cross-departmental meetings to ensure alignment between research updates and institutional marketing priorities.
Scientific and Medical Communications Translate complex scientific and medical concepts into compelling, accessible content for technical and non-technical audiences, including donors, stakeholders, and the general public. Collaborate with researchers to ensure accuracy and authenticity in all communications related to their work. Develop and implement marketing strategies that increase the visibility of the institution's research activities through traditional and digital channels. Create and disseminate press releases to highlight research grants and other TLI accomplishments. Pitch research stories to media outlets and coordinate media engagement opportunities with researchers. Monitor industry trends and media coverage related to biomedical research and identify opportunities for strategic content dissemination.
Development Support Work closely with Development team to identify opportunities to link research breakthroughs with philanthropic campaigns. Write and develop marketing materials that inspire and engage donors, fostering a deeper understanding of the institution's research impact and funding needs. Assist in preparing board, donor, and other reports and newsletters that highlight research initiatives, outcomes, and their societal impact. Copyedit fundraising and stewardship materials, as appropriate.
Team Collaboration & Development Ability to multi-task effectively while demonstrating strong organizational skills. EDUCATION
Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications or similar field required, with 3-5 years of relevant experience. Degree in a scientific discipline may be considered in lieu of a marketing/communications degree provided the candidate has relevant experience.
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum 1-2 years of experience in an academic or research-focused communications environment, including experience collaborating with researchers, clinicians, or scientific teams. Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong grammar, spelling, and proofreading skills ensuring editorial integrity, consistency, and accuracy of content. Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills with an ability to translate complex medical and scientific research into clear, engaging content for both technical and non-technical audiences. Knowledge of digital marketing tools, social media platforms, and content management systems. Attention to detail and commitment to accuracy in scientific communication. Ability to work as a member of a team. Ability to work well under pressure and meet multiple and sometimes conflicting deadlines. Ability to interact in an appropriate and professional manner. Demonstrated cooperative behavior and positive problem-solving and conflict resolution skills.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Organize and coordinate events, workshops, and conferences to promote research findings and engage with key stakeholders. 6. Build and maintain relationships with media outlets, bloggers, and other influencers to increase visibility and coverage of research projects. 7. Monitor and analyze market trends, competitor activity, and audience feedback to inform future research outreach efforts. 8. Work closely with the research team to ensure that all marketing and outreach activities align with the organization's research goals and objectives.

Salary Range: $110,000-$140,000/yr.
