Staff Research Associate IV sought by Lundquist Institute for Biomedical Innovation in Torrance, CA
Duties : Serve in the Department of Pediatrics to design and perform new experiments and research activities in areas of neonatology, such as feto-neonatal lung maturity and injury-repair, transgenerational transmission of acquired traits, and developmental outcomes of preterm infants born at high risk. Utilize knowledge of molecular biology, such as in RNA, DNA extractions, rt-PCR, electrophoresis, ELISA, and protein assays to troubleshoot various experiments. Work with cell culture and treatments, conduct cell culture and differentiation, and analyze resulting data for further research and development. Perform research and studies that are key to Harbor-UCLA Medical Center's efforts to provide highly specialized pediatric care, advanced diagnostic technologies, and therapeutic services to the most vulnerable and critically ill newborns in its Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). Focus on primary cell culture, iPSC, and tissue culture to examine treatment modalities for specific cell and tissue abnormalities, mutations, and pathologies. Conduct related research activities to expand Lundquist Institute's excellence in clinical and translational research related to pediatric health. Supervise laboratory experiments and provide guidance. Write and contribute to research reports and prepare manuscripts. Prepare grant proposals and presentations of research findings.
Requirements : Master's degree, or equivalent, in Biological Science, Molecular Oncology, Cellular Biology, or a related field plus two (2) years of Immunology Research, Molecular Biology Research, or related experience: testing and developing vaccine candidates; working with cell culture and developing molecules; detecting presence of antigens in biological samples using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay technique; performing RNA extractions; diagnosing viral diseases by performing reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction tests; conducting screening tests on anti-proliferative molecules; detecting specific proteins in blood or tissue samples by using gel electrophoresis; and researching cell cycles.
