The Lundquist Institute is looking for a Nutritionist I to join our team. Successful applicants will be required to be fully vaccinated against the COVID-19 virus prior to starting, unless an approved medical or religious exemption.       

 

The position of Nutritionist I, Special Nutrition Services (SNS) Dietitian requires in-depth knowledge of maternal and child health and nutrition as well as strong familiarity with WIC Program regulations, policies, and procedures.  Is responsible for conducting group nutrition, breastfeeding, and health education activities and performing nutritional and breastfeeding risk assessment, individual education, and breastfeeding support for low-risk and high-risk women, infants, and children participating in the WIC Program. Conducts enrollment as well as certification of WIC Program applicants and participants according to state and federal Program guidelines. The Nutritionist I performs nutrition assessment, intensive individual follow-up, and referrals to participants identified as high risk as well as their family members enrolled in the WIC Program. In addition, performs various administrative tasks in accordance with established procedures to support WIC Program site operations.

 

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Experience conducting nutrition assessments and counseling within the context of an accredited Dietetic Internship Program is required.
  • Bachelors Degree in Nutrition or Dietetics.  Registered with the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND).  The RD shall possess and maintain the RD credential or the right to use the term “registered dietitian” as approved by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND).
  • Strong background in maternal and child health and nutrition
  • Thorough understanding of nutrition as it relates to diet and disease
  • Familiarity with WIC Program services, regulations and policies, including competency in using WIC WISE
  • Strong computer skills; able to satisfactorily perform work using WIC WISE, LBL, and CAIR database, Google Meets, Zoom, doxy.me, and other videoconferencing platforms as well as email communication.
  • Demonstrated interest in and ability for working with WIC’s target population group
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent teaching and PCE counseling skills
  • Strong organization and administrative skills; attention to detail
  • Sensitive to, and respect for, the cultural diversity and bias of the target population
  • Possess culturally competent skills and abilities
  • Dependable personal transportation for traveling to WIC sites and administrative office for meetings
  • Demonstrated ability to be self-motived and to occasionally work independently without close supervision
  • Willingness to become proficient in basic conversational Spanish
  • Available to work dependable, flexible shift

 

Description of Duties

  • Performs immunization (IZ) record assessment and education for WIC Program participants and enters IZ information in CAIR database 
  • Enters data in WIC WISE according to established policies and procedures 
  • Participates in WIC WISE card distribution activities in accordance with established procedures 
  • Maintains security and control of  WIC WISE cards when assigned and authorized to do so according to prescribed policies and procedures 
  • Handles WIC WISE cards following established procedures
  • Assists with completing required reports and other routine paperwork related to WIC WISE, when assigned
  • Assists in training staff members at the site, when assigned to do so 
  • Participates in various activities to provide WIC Program information to community residents in accordance with established procedures
  • Follows policies and protocols relating to the implementation of breastfeeding, nutrition, and health education activities at the site
  • Contributes to maintaining a breastfeeding-friendly environment
  • Participates in breastfeeding promotion activities at the WIC site
  • Maintains a high degree of responsibility for client confidentiality and must not release any information to unauthorized persons
  • Maintains a pleasant, courteous, tactful attitude with all contacts
  • Promotes cooperative working relationships among staff and program participants
  • Demonstrates excellent customer service skills
  • Attends training updates and maintains current knowledge of required standards of program development, including modifications and updates to WIC WISE
  • Works with minimal supervision and demonstrates initiative in organizing and completing daily tasks
  • Accepts assignments and travels to other SLAHP WIC locations, as needed
  • Resolves minor problems by using judgment based on knowledge of Company policies, practices and procedures
  • Meets established productivity and quality standards for assigned duties
  • Complies with established workplace ergonomic and safety recommendations
  • Meets SLAHP attendance and punctuality guidelines
  • Is responsible for other tasks as may be required for efficient operation of the site
  • Change of work schedule and/or overtime is a condition of employment and may be required based on the needs of the company
  • Change of assigned work location may be required based on the needs of the company

$24.00-33.73hr
