Job Description

The Major Gifts Officer will meet and exceed philanthropic campaign goals through the strategic identification, cultivation and solicitation of major gifts. The individual will capitalize on strategic opportunities within the Lundquist Institute’s existing supporter population, as well as identify new major, principal, and transformational gift prospects with the ability contribute $1 million or more to the Institute.

He/she will qualify top prospects through emails, calls, virtual and in-person meetings, and events across Southern California. In addition to managing a portfolio of top prospects, the individual will attend and support donor engagement initiatives, arrange individual appointments for Institute leadership, and document all activity in The Lundquist Institute’s CRM (Salesforce).

Responsibilities (including but not limited to the following):

  • Partner with Development staff and CEO in formulating and achieving fundraising goals on an annual basis
  • Manage portfolio of 50+ major gift prospects
  • Create targeted, segmented, and personalized cultivation plans for prospects
  • Coordinate gift preparation, acknowledgment, gift agreements, stewardship reports, and donor recognition
  • Develop and maintain solicitation timelines for donors/prospects
  • Compose bi-weekly reports summarizing activity, strategy, and engagement with prospects
  • Participate in the development and improvement of a donor relations plan for The Lundquist Institute that ensures the highest possible level of engagement for donors
  • Develop, build, and retain positive relationships with diverse group of internal and external constituents
  • Recruit and partner with volunteers to cultivate current donors and engage new donors at The Lundquist
  • In partnership with the Office of Public Affairs, plan and support events engaging major donors/ prospects
  • Attend moves management meetings with internal campaign team to strategize cultivation plans
  • Utilize Salesforce database to capture the relevant constituent information necessary for a top-notch stewardship program

New Initiatives and Other Duties as Assigned

  • Participate in building dedications, gift celebrations, galas, and other events as needed
  • Service on ad-hoc committees as assigned/necessary

Qualifications Required

  • 6+ years of fundraising/non-profit management experience
  • Understanding and sensitivity to diverse donor populations
  • Experience in a similar role with demonstrated record of success
  • Ability to share specific examples of success and references
