Job Description

 Minimum of one-year experience performing community-based outreach or health education responsibilities. Knowledge and familiarity with WIC WISE and WIC Program regulations, policies and proceduresKnowledge of basic principles of maternal and child health and nutrition.  Demonstrated interest in and ability for working with WIC’s target population group. Excellent verbal and written communication skillsStrong interpersonal and customer service skills.  Effective group education and presentation skills. Strong leadership, administrative and organizational skills.  Professional telephone skillsA sincere desire to contribute to the community.  Sensitive to, and respect for, the cultural diversity and bias of the target population. Demonstrated ability to be self-motivated. Excellent English language interpersonal, and presentation communication skills. Computer literacy and aptitude to learn WIC WISE and other social media platform and communication software.  Available to work dependable, flexible shift.

Description of Duties

  • Represents SLAHP WIC on local advisory councils, committees and collaborative groups
  • Identifies ways to build and strengthen collaborative relationships with community partners
  • Conducts presentations to medical providers, social service agencies, schools, churches and other community groups about WIC services, eligibility and enrollment procedures 
  • Participates in conducting community outreach activities and events to eligible population groups, medical and social service providers and community organizations in the targeted service area
  • Attends outside trainings sessions, meetings  and conferences as appropriate
  • Acts as a liaison between the MCH Specialist II, outreach staff and community partners
  • Participates in other activities/special projects under the direction of the MCH Specialist II
  • Works with minimal supervision in exercising initiative in organizing and completing daily tasks
  • Solves minor problems by using judgment based on knowledge of Company policies, practices and procedures
  • Must be willing to work flexible hours including Saturdays, Sundays and evenings
